High time for Basslink resolution
Digital Tasmania today welcomed news that the Treasurer continues to take a keen interest in activation of the Basslink Fibre optic cable, however the group said that there is no reason to celebrate until the cable is activated and providing competitive access for Tasmanians to the Internet and other services.

Digital Tasmania today called for Premier Bartlett to work closely with the Treasurer, Aurora and CitySpring to help resolve the impasse surrounding the Basslink fibre optic cable.
Speaking at a communications forum in Launceston today convened by Senator Guy Barnett and attended by Federal Shadow Minister for Broadband, Bruce Billson, Digital Tasmania spokesperson Andrew Connor reiterated the need for the state government to resolve the uncertainty around Basslink.

Positive steps from Basslink
Digital Tasmania cautiously welcomed today's announcement by Basslink that they are committed to broadband choice in the state and have today secured a carrier license from the ACMA, an essential step required in preparation to light the Basslink fibre optic cable.
