Electoral matter on the Internet (Section 191)
http://www.digitaltasmania.org/news/18/58
Section 191 of the Tas Electoral Act requires all electoral matter posted on the Internet be accompanied with an authorisation containing a person’s full name and home or work address.
We believe that this is an unworkable law and puts an unreasonable expectation on individuals to publish personal details on the Internet without any privacy protections.
Digital
We called for this section of law not to be enforced for this election and for a review to take place after the election.
Within days party leaders provided verbal support for a review however we have still not received any response from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.
We will pursue the matter in a constructive manner when a review of the electoral act takes place.
